A SALE couple are encouraging others to join them in taking part in a sponsored walk in the beautiful grounds of Tatton Park on Saturday (August 11).

Sharon Mercer, Brian Ransom and their pet Rio, an lhasa apso, will be tackling the Walk Ten for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sharon, from Marford Crescent, who is the secretary of the Sale fundraising group, said “We have had friends and family who have benefited from the care provided by the charity and look forwardS to having a good fun evening while raising valuable funds. Fingers crossed the sun will shine.

“Rio is very excited about the event – especially if he can wear the hat. It’s not too late to take part – come along and sign up on the night.”

Walk Ten is a series of 10k summer evening walks followed by celebrations taking place at venues across the UK, sponsored by home emergency insurer HomeServe. Participants in the walk raise money to help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes.

Following the walk at Tatton Park which starts at 6pm, there will be fireworks, music and a picnic to celebrate the work of Marie Curie Nurses. Registration is £10 per person in advance (children go free) and £20 to register on the night. Everyone is encouraged to raise as much as they can to help the 76 nurses in the Greater Manchester are who last year gave 45,000 hours of care to almost 600 patients.
