WE may not have the weather - but a corner of the borough felt like Jamaica on Monday.

The Promenade Park on Trafford Wharf Road, Trafford Park, played host to a special event to mark the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence from the UK.

Councillor Mrs Patricia Young, the Mayor of Trafford, opened the event celebrating the Jamaican people who have made the area what it is today.

Former Mayor, Cllr Whit Stennett, MBE, gave a speech on behalf of the borough’s Jamaican residents and the guests enjoyed some Jamaician-style entertainment and refreshments.

Leader of Trafford Council, Cllr Matt Colledge said: “I was delighted to be part of this occasion, which recognises an important moment in history while celebrating Trafford’s Jamaican community.”
