Trafford Welcomes the World events held in Stretford, Partington and Urmston

Celebrations in Stretford. Celebrations in Stretford.

FAMILIES enjoyed three fun-packed afternoons of Olympic inspired activities in town centres across the borough last week.

The events called 'Trafford Welcomes the World' showcased the culture and traditions of a selection of teams playing Olympic football at Old Trafford.

Stretford town centre, with support from Stretford Mall and Trafford Council, hosted an African-themed event and visitors took part in African drumming workshops and performances.

Partington enjoyed a Team GB theme with live entertainment from dance groups Charisma Stars and Pied Pipers, and football coaching from Trafford Community Leisure Trust.

Finally, Urmston, with support from Urmston Partnership and Eden Square Shopping Centre, staged a Brazilian themed event with salsa classes and demonstrations of capoeira - a Brazilian art form which combines fight, dance, rhythm and movement.

Trafford Council leader Matt Colledge said: "Trafford Welcomes the World events were a great opportunity for people to experience the rich and diverse cultures of the countries playing at Old Trafford during the Games.

“We are pleased that so many people took part in them and celebrated the Olympics with us."

Previous events have also taken place in Altrincham and Sale.

Altrincham Resident says...

Sounds like Stretford, Partington & Urmston had better events done in than Altrincham which was a complete non-event, as usual. How is it Trafford Council consistently fail to get events right in Altrincham? - especially with all the resource we're being told is being put into Altrincham Forward.
