YEAR Seven Altincham Grammar School student Celine Barclay and her family are celebrating after she secured second place in the national final of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee, at Anglia Ruskin University, in Cambridge.

Celine was competing against more than 100 pupils in the German, Spanish and French finals.

The European Commission supported the trophies and refreshments, and representatives were there to award the prizes and watch the competition unfold. The Mayor of Cambridge Cllr Sheila Stuart was also present alongside the Cambridge MP Julian Huppert and Dr Tony Morgan, Director of Routes into Languages East.

He said: This spelling bee is a fun way of encouraging young pupils to embrace language learning while improving their language and memory skills.

“Celine clearly has a bright future ahead of her and will hopefully continue to develop her impressive language talent over the coming years”.
