TRAFFORD Council has unveiled details of this summer’s ‘Trafford Welcomes the World’ events.

Taking place throughout the Olympic games, each event will showcase the culture and traditions of a selection of Olympic football teams playing at Old Trafford.

Five events will take place in towns across the borough including Sale, Altrincham, Stretford, Urmston and Partington.

Sale will feature a USA theme, Altrincham has Spain, Stretford celebrates with Africa, Urmston has Brazil and Partington is teamed up with Team GB.

Starting next week, the events are set to celebrate the Olympics in style and have been billed as ‘an exciting multi-cultural programme of music, dance and food’.

Wednesday, August 1 from 11am, Stretford Mall: Face painting, treasure hunt competitions, football activities with Stretford Victoria football club, African drumming workshops, and African inspired food.

Thursday, August 2 from 12pm, Partington Library and Well Being Centre: Face painting, messy play activities with Partington Children’s Centre, British inspired food from Ear4U café, local dance groups including Charisma Stars, Pied Pipers and Rhythmic Gymnastics Team, and football activities with Trafford Community Leisure Trust.

Saturday, August 4 from 12pm, Eden Square, Urmston: Face painting, treasure hunt competitions, craft activities with Kip McGrath, capoeira and salsa, Latin American music and a taster food stall with Sainsburys.

Saturday, July 28 from 11am, George Street and the Market, Altrincham: Face painting, flamenco dancers, Spanish musicians, Spanish inspired food, craft activities at Local Creations, football activities with Altrincham FC. Local shops will also be offering Spanish refreshments. There will also be a treasure hunt competition with four Olympic football tickets as a prize.

Saturday, July 28 from 11am, Sale town centre and Waterside Piazza: Face painting, balloon modeler, performers from Gorse Hill Studios, football activities with Sale United and the Gimme 5s.
