Bowdon Church School pupils create dishes for Amba restaurant in Hale, Trafford
12:00pm Friday 3rd August 2012 in News
SOME new additions to the menu at Amba restaurant in Hale have been created thanks to budding chefs from Bowdon Church School.
A new healthy starter called Puzzle Salad and a main course called Hale’s Healthy Chicken have been created by winning pupils Sergio Mendez-Allende and Amelia Malthouse, as part of the restaurant’s healthy eating competition.
The family-owned restaurant launched a competition for year five pupils at Bowdon Church School to invent a dish, using a range of healthy ingredients, fit to be served in the restaurant.
Amba proprietor, Ryland Wakeham, said they had been very impressed with the dishes the pupils had come up with.
“The flavours and compositions really were of a restaurant standard, it was hard to select the two winners.
“It’s been really encouraging to see that these young people know not only how to eat healthily, but also how to get creative in the kitchen when cooking.”
The winning dishes will be served on the Amba set menu for the month of August and the two winning pupils will be treated to a meal for them and their families at Amba.
Ryland and Amba head chef, Peter Rowley, judged the entries, and as well as selecting the two winners, chose six runners up. The runners up were Liam Gornall, Megan Yates, Cameron Morrison, Charlie Horlock and Gabriel Fletcher.
