Youngsters receive Olympic tickets

THOUSANDS of Olympic football tickets have been awarded to sport clubs and projects across the north west as part of an incentive programme called 'Ticketshare'.

Tickets have been handed out for for football matches at Old Trafford. Trafford is the only host borough for London 2012 in the north west and the allocation has been managed by Trafford Council in partnership with Manchester and Salford City Councils. A share has also been given to the rest of the northwest for distribution.

Councillor Jonathan Coupe, executive member at Trafford Council, said: “This is an fantastic opportunity for sport clubs and innovative community projects inspired by the games to be part of the London 2012 experience on their own turf.

“The matches at Old Trafford will have a special London 2012 atmosphere and the whole family can enjoy watching world-class sport.

“Every country playing football here will be made to feel very welcome; it’s also a fantastic chance for us to promote the local area to a global audience as a place to live, work and visit.”

The Timperley and District Football League is among the organisations to benefit.

League chairman John Burnett said: "This ticket incentive is a once in a lifetime opportunity for players to experience the Olympics on their doorstep. This is great for young people and sport fans in the north west."

Allocation and distribution of the tickets is now complete.
