Trafford's population is on the increase

THE population of Trafford increased by 7.8 per cent between 2001 and 2011, growing from 210,200 to 226,600, according to the 2011 Census results.

The increase was higher than the national average, which saw a seven per cent growth in England and Wales between 2001 and 2011.

However, the north west population only increased by four per cent, from 6.7 million to 7.1 million people within the same period.

Although the region is the third largest in England, the north west had seen a decrease in population between 1981 and 2001.

Jil Matheson, National Statistician, said the Census in the north west had been a resounding success and thanked everyone for their support.
