THE Counselling and Family Centre in Altrincham celebrated the launch of its new fundraising group with the help of TV funny man, Ted Robbins.

Having helped couples, families and children for the last three decades, the CFC plays a vital role in the community.

In order to make their services available to as many families as possible, CFC’s new group – the Friends of the Counselling and Family Centre – aims to put the fun in fundraising.

Jo Wood, counselling manager at CFC, said: “Although our work is serious, we want people to have a good time whilst helping us to help others.”

The launch of the group was attended by more than 40 people, including the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Patricia Young, and of course, special guest Ted Robbins.

Known for his roles in ‘Phoenix Nights’ and CBBC’s ‘The Slammer’, Ted entertained the crowd with jokes and tales of his pre-showbiz life as a trainee nurse.

Ted said: “It’s so hard for many families today. I don’t know how some people manage – so it’s good to know that there are services like CFC, to offer support and help to them and provide a safe place for kids to talk through their feelings.

“I admire and applaud the counsellors, who must see some folk at their lowest ebb and help them along the road to a better place.”

The Friends will be holding regular meetings to plan and organise future fundraising events.

The first meeting will be held at the centre on Mayors Road, Altrincham, on Thursday, July 19 at 7pm.
