A MAN with a knife held up a petrol station in Stretford before escaping empty handed.

The incident, which took place shortly before 11pm on Tuesday, June 5, saw the would-be-robber enter the BP station on Audley Avenue, known locally as Circle Court garage.

The man demanded cash while threatening a member of staff with a kitchen knife.

When the employee called the police, the offender ran off.

The offender is describes as black, 6ft 2in tall, of thin build and spoke with a local accent. He is said to have been wearing a high visibility jacket, over the top of a dark hooded top.

Detective Constable Dave Wood, of Stretford CID, said: “The offender has armed himself with a knife and threatened the shop worker, clearly hoping to get his hands on some cash.

“Instead he is now on the run wanted for an attempted robbery and I would appeal to anyone who recognises the description of the offender or knows anything about this incident to call the police.”
