Man given £80 fine after misinforming Trafford police
10:44am Tuesday 12th June 2012 in News
A MAN has been fined after he lied about where he was assaulted.
The 30-year-old man reported being assaulted in a subway between Barton Road and Canterbury Road in the early hours of Saturday, May 19.
However, following an appeal to trace witnesses, it was established the man had lied about being assaulted in the subway and had in fact been assaulted on Glastonbury Road.
The man told police he was assaulted on Glastonbury Road but declined to provide any further information. He was given a fixed penalty notice of £80 for wasting police time.
Detective Constable Izzy Graham, of Trafford CID, said: “By lying about where he was assaulted, this man has wasted a considerable amount of police time.
“As soon as we received the report of assault we launched a full investigation and thanks to information received following a media appeal we established that all was not as it seemed.
“Instead of helping us bring the offenders to justice the man has landed himself with an £80 fine and this case goes to show that we will not hesitate to take action against anyone who lies to police.”
