A FORMER Trafford Young Citizen of the Year is embarking on a new campaign to raise £250,000 by the end of this year.

Kirsty Ashton, who suffers from nuerofibromatosis (NF) and scolisis, wants to give back to the When You Wish Upon A Star charity, which took her to Lapland when she was nine years old.

The 22-year-old from Wythenshawe, who won an MBE in January for charitable services, has launched ‘Kirsty for good’ to make poorly children’s dreams a reality.

Give as you Live has joined forces with Kirsty to help her reach the £250,000 goal by December.

The charity has partnered with online retailers so that each time a person signs up to Kirsty’s campaign a percentage of each purchase gets donated to the cause.

She hopes the money will send terminally ill children and their families away to Centre Parcs on holiday and has already managed to send a group to see Santa in Lapland.

Kirsty said: “If I can make more dreams come true like I have so far then I’m happy.”

The radio production student is arranging a star studded ball, sponsored spokerfon and a variety night to achieve her fund raising goals.

She is hopeful she can do it but says she would not have done so well without her family helping her.

She said: “I’ve got a very supportive family. They’re fantastic.”
