PLANNING permission has been refused for a house to be built next to a listed building in Carrington.

The scheme was for a house with four bedrooms to be sited on a garden by an eighteenth century grade II listed house on Crampton Lane, called Westwood Lodge.

Planning committee members praised the way the historic house has been restored.

They voted against allowing the proposed development, on the grounds that it would detract from the setting of the listed building.
