Facebook helps to increase organ donor numbers

FACEBOOK users can now state their wish to be an organ donor on the social networking site.
The new timeline facility allows users to put themselves forward for organ donation via the health and wellbeing button.
Would-be donors are reminded that they are not officially registered until they sign up with the organ donation register.
It is hoped this new way of stating interest in organ donation will increase the number of donors who share their wishes with their families.
There are around 10,000 people currently waiting for a transplant in the UK, with three people dying daily as they wait.
