Kirsten is riding high in BMX competition

SALE youngster Kirsten Dillon is set to represent Great Britain just months after riding in her first BMX competition.

Kirsten, aged seven, will ride for Team GB in Birmingham from May 24-27 in the UCI BMX World Championships after being recognised as one of the top eight riders for her age.

Dad Karl said: “I’m very proud of her. Her interest in BMX started by wanting to go over the big hills!”

Kirsten is an active child, and enjoys swimming and trampolining as well as BMX. Her parents encourage the Templemoor Infant School pupil to stay active.

She has also met British Olympic hopeful and three time world BMX champion Shanaze Reade at meets around the country.

“Shanaze was very approachable. She was happy to speak to Kirsten and encourage her. Seeing a top level cyclist like Shanaze gives kids something to aspire to.”

Kirsten rides at Manchester BMX Club and has recently started training at the £24m National Indoor BMX Centre at SportCity, which opened last year.
