Artist scoops award for her butterflies

A SALE artist has landed an art award after exhibiting her porcelain ‘Butterflies’ installation.

Sarah Malone was awarded the Waterside Open 2012 Visitor’s Choice Award seeing off competition from 160 other works.

Visitors to the exhibition voted for their favourite artwork, sponsored by the Elspeth and Imogen Turner Collection, since the exhibition opened in February at the Waterside Arts Centre.

Other works included paintings, photography, printing, textiles, ceramics, sculpture and film. Sarah’s intricate porcelain piece impressed and she recieved £150 prize money.

She said: “It’s a real honour to recieve the award, particularly given the strength of the competition at this year’s show.

Trafford is a real hub of creativity and I feel fortunate to have been able to celebrate that with so many talented artists at such a greats venue.”

Sarah also won the opportunity to take part in a group exhibition at the centre next year.
