Altrincham man charged with theft after woman killed in hit and run

AN Altrincham man has been charged with theft after a woman was killed in a hit and run accident.

Marc Kirvin, aged 46, of West Avenue, has been charged today by Greater Manchester Police and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 17.

The charge comes after an investigation into the death of Sarwari Ashraf, aged 62, who was killed while crossing Upper Brook Street, in Longsight, on March 29 at about 9.50am.

Her shoes and handbag were later found to be missing from the scene.

Sarwari was crossing the road near the junction with Hathersage Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle.

A 40-year-old lorry driver arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
