Local Creation opens its doors

John Wonnacott John Wonnacott

MORE than 200 people attended the grand opening of new art facility Local Creation in Altrincham town centre on Friday night.

Local Creation is the brainchild of father-of-one John Wonnacott who gave up his white collar job to pursue his dream of running a centre which brings craftspeople together to work, show and sell their work.

The building – on Central Way behind the former Bricklayers pub – is now open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

John hopes it will draw people back to the town centre and breathe new life into the area.

It was for these reasons that John won last year’s Drive 2 Thrive competition launched by Myers Lister Price, Nikal, Trafford Council, RMS PR and Messenger.

John said: “After months of hard work getting the building ready, Friday’s opening was fantastic.

“The response was wonderful and the whole thing was quite overwhelming actually!”

If you would like to rent space in the building you can contact John on 07971 928188.

For your information I have been and it looks like a church jumble sale!! - It's hardly going to do anything for Altrincham. I can hardly see shop chains saying lets open a shop in Altrincham because theyve got a building full of mediocre pictures!

Dear "talking sense", thankyou for your helpful comments.

The idea of local creation is to show that there is a wealth of talent in the area. The exhibition at the moment is an "open" and does indeed, as intended, show a mixture of talent from the community. There is also a great deal of amazing professional artists showing their work. The exhibition acts to inspire some and also be controversial.

But being a gallery is a small part of Local Creation. It is also a creative environment to attract people it has workshops, seminars and studios for all the community to learn and create.

At the end of the day though Mr Wonnacott has actually put his money where his mouth is. He believes in what he is doing and is trying bring some regeneration to Altrincham (and not by attracting chain shops like the Trafford Centre). Perhaps we all could learn a lot from that.

Gratuitous ill, informed comment does neither the sender or the recipient any good.
What on earth gives Talking Sense a right to upset the hard work and enterprise of a civic minded and obvious patron of the arts and craft workers? Is it jealousy, sour grapes, spite, or a mid-life crisis.

I overheard an interesting exchange at the Hockney exhibition the other day.' do you know...... anybody could do that'reply 'OK then do it!!' In fact Talking Sense talks rubbish and that is a polite version. Tell him to get real and get some knowledge before airing his unacceptable political stupid views. Does he have the guts to be known? I bet not.

Ignore talking(non)sense Michael, he's been leaving negative comments, on every subject, for a long while. You can count his constructive comments on one finger (preferably the middle one). His standard reply when challenged is "I love winding people up".
