New members wanted for Altrincham's new choir

INSPIRED by BBC’s The Choir, Altrincham’s new choir is giving residents the chance to have the Gareth Malone experience.

Simply Singing started up the new choir a month ago at North Cestrian Grammer School and are on the lookout for new members.

Set up by Louise Johnston and Alice Wrigley in 2009, the organisation aims to help raise social interaction within communities and the former music students believe that singing has massive health benefits.

Between them the pair have a wide range of experience in music. Louise worked for eight years engaging vulnerable people including ex offenders, alcohol or drug abusers and people with learning difficulties in music and counts X Factor winner Shayne Ward as one of her ex-pupils.

Teamed up with Alice, who has toured Europe with various ensembles, the pair’s love of music and working with people has seen them run sessions all around the North West with one choir even being asked to perform in front of the Queen in December 2011.

The pair said, “We believe everyone can sing. We don’t believe in tone deaf and we want to excite and enthuse anyone who has been told previously by their teacher or family that they can’t sing.”

Simply Singing sessions run at North Cestrian Grammar School Dance Studio, Dunham Road, Altrincham from 6.30pm-8.30pm every Thursday.
