A COUPLE from Hale have scooped a gold award for having the best bed and breakfast and guesthouse in Anglesey.

Former Altrincham and Bowdon Preparatory teacher Gill Beevers and husband Laurie own the five star Cleifiog in the historic town of Beaumaris, by the Menai Strait.

They took it over in 2010 having stayed there a few times as guests when they fell in love with the house.

Now they have won the top B and B honour in the 2012 Anglesey Tourism Awards.

Judges described the Michelin recommended Cleifiog as 'outstanding'.

They also praised Gill for keeping the five-star status after taking over the business.

“It was fantastic to win this award after just two years here,” said Gill, who still has family in Hale including daughter Emily.

”We had never really thought about running a B and B but we both wanted the house so much we couldn’t’ resist it.”

Meanwhile the Beevers, who still have a home in Hale, were also celebrating an Anglesey awards double –because another daughter Zoe and her husband James Grant picked up another gold award for best self catering establishment of the year, with their holiday development at Tros yr Afon further down the coast at Penmon.

Gill and Laurie, a stockbroker in Colwyn Bay, say they love Anglesey which attracts more than 1.4 million holiday visitors a year and plan to make Cleifiog an even more memorable place for their guests in the years to come.
