SALE and Altrincham’s Oxfam stores will pioneer a new interactive app revealing the stories behind donated items.
Oxfam Shelflife is a unique scheme being piloted across 10 stores in Manchester.
Donors are able to ‘tag’ their donations with an individual QR Code using their iPhone which will then record the story of the item.
When buyers browse items in the store, they are able to scan the code and reveal the item’s history.
Oxfam’s Head of Retail Brand Sarah Farquhar said: “We’ve found that items with an interesting story behind them are instantly more appealing to our customers so we hope Oxfam Shelflife will encourage people to love items for longer.”
