REAL ale campaigners have released two new guides that reveal hidden gems of pubs along Metrolink’s Altrincham line.
The pocket-sized leaflets, devised by Trafford and Hulme CAMRA, list the best watering holes at each tram stop on the Altrincham and newly opened South Manchester routes.
A total of 15 pubs are featured along the Altrincham line with a further eight appearing in the town centre.
CAMRA’s John O'Donnell designed and financed the leaflets. He said: “The guides are about encouraging people to support the great British pub.
“Thousands of people use the tram network every day to get to and from work but it's also a great for getting out and about at other times.
“As well as being available in local pubs so workers can discover pubs that they normally whizz past on their daily journey, we are also making the guides available to download and by mail order so visitors to the area can be encouraged to get out of the city centre and make a day of it exploring the excellent variety of offer along the Altrincham line.”
CAMRA originally published a guide to pubs along the Bury to Altrincham line when the Metrolink network opened in 1992.
All the pubs featured on the Altrincham line in 1992 are still open, although a number have ceased to stock traditional cask ales.
Seven thousand of the full colour guides are being distributed via pubs and tourist information centres in Manchester and Trafford.
They can also be downloaded from the CAMRA website.
