SALE firefighters came to the aid of a Partington toddler - after he got a toilet seat stuck on his head.

Two-year-old Josh Cullen ended in a tight spot after he tried to use his small trainer seat as a hat.

The youngster, of Charlock Walk, pulled the seat over his head - and it got stuck fast.

After his mum, Siouxsie, aged 26, and grandad, Mark Edwards, failed to remove the seat they decided to ask the fire service for help.

Mark, of Woodruff Walk, Partington, said: “Josh just put it on his head like a hat. He pulled it straight over his head - and it wouldn’t come off.

“I tried putting soap on it to lift if off but it was still stuck. I didn’t want to cut it because of the risk of hurting him.”

So Mark drove Josh to Sale fire station after telling him that Fireman Sam was going to help.

And the firefighters soon managed to ‘loosen’ the seat with scissors and remove it - ending Josh’s hour-long ordeal on Tuesday afternoon.

Youth worker Mark, aged 48, added: “He was getting a little stressed when I couldn’t get it off, but as soon as I told him Fireman Sam was going to help us he was fine.

“The firefighters were brilliant with him. They kept him calm and afterwards he sat in a fire engine, put on a hat and they put on the blue lights for him.

“We’ve seen the funny side of it, and Josh is none the worse for his ordeal.”
