New information pillar at Stretford Mall, in Trafford

VISITORS to Stretford Mall can now get key advice on crime prevention thanks to a new information pillar.

The pillar, the first in Trafford, is located at the Kingsway entrance and has three panels that will display information on policing.

Initially the pillar will give details on the borough’s four neighbourhood policing teams and advice reminding people not to leave items on display in their vehicles.

The pillar was paid for by Trafford Housing Trust’s community panel and Sgt Steve Kenny, for Stretford NPU, said: “We are always looking at new and creative ways to communicate with residents in the area and the best ways to get community safety messages across to the public.

“This is in a central location with hundreds of people walking by each day so the pillar will be seen by many people as they do their shopping.

“The pillar is a great way to get people’s attention and give them information they need. We think it will be a very effective tool, given that it will be regularly updated to address current community issues.”

Ruth Carroll, for Trafford Housing Trust, added: “We are always eager to make sure that people have as much information as possible to help them in their hours of need.

“There will be hundreds of people walking past the pillar everyday and I hope they will take the time to stop and read the information. This is a first for the area and we are really pleased to be a part of this initiative.”
