URMSTON’S kindness has overwhelmed a family, who are raising money to find a cure for their little boy’s cancer.

Since six-year-old Finn Middleton was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma in January, friends, family and Trafford residents have raised tens of thousands of pounds for his treatment.

But it is the latest efforts of the Urmston community that has left his parents - Jo and Paul - ‘overwhelmed’ as they prepare for a charity auction to celebrate mum Jo’s 40th birthday this weekend at Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Every single stall on Urmston Market has donated items for the auction and the majority of businesses in Urmston town centre have also got on board.

Shops the family have had prizes donated from include Lilly’s boutique and coffee shop, Thorntons, Thomas Carter, County Grill cafe, ‘to Cherish’ photography studio, The Chadwick pub, Six, Urmston Furniture Warehouse, Whitakers, Urmston Bookshop, Bodywyze, Eden nails, Eddie McGrath Cycles, Richard’s Cakes, Orb, Big Brands Furniture Store, Sainsbury’s, Michelle Richards Florist, Nuala’s blooms and Davyhulme Golf Club.

Six have already raised £400 by selling bangles for Finn’s Fund.

Jo said: “It’s like the whole community has just come together for my little boy and it is just tremendous.

“We’ve been overwhelmed once more by the generosity of the local community and business.

“We’ve always shopped locally and I hope that people will see that Urmston town centre really does support the local people and I hope that more people will keep going to local shops, especially the market.”

Finn, from Western Road in Flixton, has responded well to months of intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments and is now back at St Monica’s Primary School.

But there is no cure for Finn’s cancer and his family are desperate to raise £100,000 to pay for a year’s research into the disease.

“His hair is growing back now and he has a lot more confidence but we just take every day as it comes,” Jo said.
