POLICE are cracking down on burglaries in Timperley after a 75 per cent rise in August.

There were 14 burglaries in Timperley during August - six more than during the same month in 2010.

The Altrincham Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have increased their patrols in hotspot areas and along with an accredited member of the Master Locksmiths Association, will be visiting homes to offer advice and free crime prevention products.

Officers will be at the Co-operative in Timperley giving out advice between 1pm and 4pm tomorrow(September 8).

On Friday September 9, they will be at Timperley Metrolink Station, between 8am and 10am, and Altrincham Interchange, between 4pm and 10pm, and on Saturday September 10, they will be at Altrincham Interchange between 4pm and 10pm.

Inspector Clark Bowers, from the Altrincham NPT, said: "While we are keeping a close eye on known offenders, it is important that people who might be vulnerable to burglary help us to minimise that risk.

“They can do this by following our simple advice, being vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity in their area.

“Residents can join Homewatch to make sure they are not an easy target for thieves. They should also lock their doors and windows, use a light timer and put an alarm on if they are going out.

“When they are out they should make sure they keep any valuables hidden and away from view.

“By working together, we can ensure fewer people suffer the distress and inconvenience of becoming a victim of burglary.”
