DAVYHULME Park Golf Club is making history in its centenary Year with a hectic programme of golf competitions and other celebrations being enjoyed at the Trafford course.
But a new piece of history has just been made on the course - when 13-handicapper Stephan Sobota shot the first ever hole-in-one on the course’s the 326-yard third hole.
Stephan decided to gamble and carry the 290 yards over the lake in a brave attempt to make the green.
He hit the drive straight at the green but was unable to see the finish of the shot with trees on his eye-line.
There was no sign of the ball on the green or in the immediate surrounds when the players arrived at the green.
it was as a last resort that they checked the hole and saw Stephan’s ball in the cup.
Stephan said: “I hit good balls off the tee all day as I enjoy playing with Jon and I love the driver I bought for our pro Dean Butler, but this must have been the best shot I have ever hit and the after effects of what I had achieved left me in shock.”
