RESIDENTS in Trafford will be getting information about making sure they are recycling properly this month.

A Greater Manchester wide scheme, backed by comedian Dave Spikey, is urging people to make sure their waste goes into the right bin.

Although residents are able to recycle their plastic bottles by putting them in their black bins, Trafford Council’s bin crews have found everything from children’s plastic toys to hose pipes and plastic kitchen colanders placed in the bins.

Smaller materials such as plastic bags, yoghurt pots, plastic trays and wrappings from newspapers also cannot be recycled, as very few companies are able to turn them into new products.

All glass, cans, tins, plastic bottles and foil should be placed in the black bin, while paper, cardboard, food and drinks cartons should be placed in the blue bin.
