A MAN has been arrested in connection with a disturbance during the Manchester derby that resulted in a police officer being blinded in one eye.

The 24-year-old officer was injured as the fans left the Eastlands stadium following Manchester United's victory against Manchester City on April 17.

He was dealing with a disturbance between opposing fans when something was thrown, hitting him in the eye.

Following a media appeal to trace a man police wanted to speak to, a 23-year-old man handed himself to police on April 12.

He was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and assault and has been bailed until June 12 pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Grey Mare Lane CID on 0161 856 3540, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
