ONCE again I feel moved to respond to one of Trafford Councillors comments in SAM, Readers Write 11.11.99.

Councillor Lane, "Who's position I didn't even know existed" states (using suitably massaged figures), some council tax bands would be higher, but neglect to mention that the ultimate aim of so called UDI for all areas south of the River Mersey that includes Sale would be run and operated from two local Town Halls namely Sale and Altrincham by local people with local ideas and local community spirit.

This would be instead of a Greater Manchester autocractic authority that only believe in comercialisation of every piece of greenery left and rides roughshod over any local opposition to their planning formula whether it is lone or joint planning decisions such as the latest fiasco over the late Woodcourt Hotel Brooklands Road, the lack of consideration for the residents adjacent to the train station, health club in Sale, the redevelopment of Sale Town Hall area in the name of progress, and by allowing Tesco's a domaineering hold in Altrincham by letting them refurbish an area the council should be looking after and lastly the Sidmouth Road, Ashton on Mersey disaster over knocking down shops instead of the Police and other paid organisations sorting out the problems of which there are many.

All in all I believe it would be well worth a little extra to break away from the Trafford DICTATORSHIP.

As long as apathy overrides common sense the status quo will remain.
