AN afternoon of festive fun has been planned to celebrate Sale's Christmas lights switch on.

The entertainment will start at 1pm on Saturday November 27 in The Square at Sale, with local groups, schools and colleges helping to create a party atmosphere.

Sale Nomads will be providing a sneak preview of their pantomime, with characters from Aladdin taking part in the switch on at 4pm.

There will be a parade from Sale Town Hall to The Square, involving TV celebrity Gordon Burns, the Mayor and Mayoress, the Sale Sharks mascot and two Sale Rugby players.

Sale Town Centre Partnership business manager Bob Maley said: "We hope that by holding the event on the Saturday with an afternoon of family entertainment, as many people as possible will be able to come along and join in the fun."

The Partnership has organised a Christmas programme of events on the Saturdays in December, including performances by Sale Brass Band, the Salvation Army Band and a barrel organist.

The Square at Sale shopping centre will be open until 8pm on the three Thursdays before Christmas and it will also open on the two Sundays, the 12th and 19th, from 10am till 4pm.

After closing from December 25 to 27, the centre will be open as normal from the 28th to the 30th, and it will be open from 10am to 4pm on New Year's Eve. It will then close on New Year's Day and Monday January 3.
