Pregnant women urged to wear seat belts properly

Mothers-to-be are being warned they could be causing harm to their baby and risking injury by wearing their seatbelts incorrectly.

Peter Rodger, chief examiner of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, says that a lot of women don’t like the way seatbelts feel, and let the strap ride up over the bump.

The correct position mothers should follow is having the lap strap as low as possible under the bump, and the diagonal strap between the breasts, around the side of the bump.

This advice is supported by the President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
