Robbie White of Hale, Trafford reaches semi final of the BBC's So You Think You Can Dance

A HALE dancer has reached the semi-final of the BBC reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance.

Robbie White managed to save his place in the contest after failing to impress the judges with his first Lindy Hop routine.

His mum, Christine, said the 22 year old managed to win their approval with his subsequent solo performance.

Then he had to face the dreaded “dance off” and this proved to be a nail biting experience for him and his supporters.

“It was terrifying, frankly, because he ended up in the dance off against Drew Maconie who is an absolutely fantastic dancer. There was a possibility he could have gone home,” she said.

Robbie, who spent more than a decade training at the Altrincham based Cardwell Theatre School is the first member of the White family to take up dance as a career. His older brother, Eddie, works as a vegetarian chef.

If he wins So You Think You Can Dance he’ll waltz off with a £100,000 cash prize and a part in a Broadway show.

Christine said she’s been pleasantly surprised by her son’s success.

“The standard of the dancers who are left in is very high but I do have great confidence in his ability as a dancer and in the sheer guts he has when he’s performing. He’s a very adventurous dancer and that sheer willingness to take a chance is something that carries him through,” she added.
