Altrincham and Sale fundraising group boosts the Christie

A PHENOMENALLY successful fundraising group has hit its latest target.

The Christie's Altrincham and Sale Fundraising Group has raised £121,000 for an in-patient treatment room in a new centre at the leading cancer hospital.

It recently handed over the final £11,396 instalment of the six figure sum - hitting its target in just 16 months.

The latest cheque followed previous payments of £65,000 and £45,000.

Barry Jones, chairman of the fundraising group, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the outcome and cannot praise the committee, their dedicated team of helpers and the generosity of local people highly enough. All of them are responsible for the success."

The target was reached through street and supermarket collections, sponsored guided walks, quiz nights, donations, Christmas card sales, open days and fairs.

Work is now underway on the new patient treatment centre at the Christie, which will house the largest early clinical trials unit in the world. All chemotherapy services will also be accommodated within it.

The Altrincham and Sale Group has donated over £400,000 to the Christie since it was set up in 1979.
