Timperley artist enters Guinness World Record Book and shows off new pictures of Formula One drivers Jenson Button, Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard

THIS is one way to read a magazine as Timperley artist Nikki Douthwaite comes back with her latest masterpiece.

At a glance, her work of Formula One drivers Jenson Button, Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard appear to be regular portraits.

Get close to the 8ft pieces and you can see they are actually made up of article cuttings from magazines.

Nikki’s 10-year F1 Magazine collection makes up the portraits, so much so that you can read the articles up close.

Taking about five months to complete, she insists this has been different from her other projects: “I’m very proud of these ones. They were quite a bit different from the rest because if I made a mistake it was ruined.”

The 34-year-old has created pieces before using a pointillism technique of sticking down thousands of dots to make the picture.

Nikki’s previous work included giant portraits of Simon Cowell and last season’s Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton which she sold to the Mercedes Maclaren team for a five- figure sum.

Nikki insists she doesn’t do it for the money, she just has a passion for art.

“I love what I do. I would not just do anybody, they have to mean something to me before I do a portrait of them,” she said.

The Manchester Metropolitan University art graduate has recently been added to the Guinness World Record Book for a previous picture of Paris, for taking the most amount of dots to create at 587,000.

She hopes to host an exhibition to showcase all her work to date, sometime next year.

“Next I want to do something different - stay away from F1 drivers. People have asked me to do footballers but I’m not interested in the game that much.”

Nikki’s latest works are on display at the Link Gallery untill next Wednesday in Manchester.
