A SUSPECTED arson attack at Wythenshawe Hospital led to a fire that endangered both patients and staff.
At about 4.50am on Tuesday, fire crews were called to the hospital, on Southmoor Road.
Clinical waste next to a bin had been set on fire, which caused substantial damage to the lift area.
No one was injured and no patients were affected.
Detective Constable Mike Whittaker, of south Manchester CID, said: "This fire could have had more serious consequences for both the staff and patients at the hospital.
"The fire is being treated as suspicious at this time and we need to find the person responsible to prevent any further irresponsible incidents like this."
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 6153 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
