AN Urmston woman so sick of the state of the housing market has taken matters into her own hands and has launched an online raffle which will see one lucky person winning her cottage for just £20.
After several deals collapsed because of mortgage lending problems, solicitor Joanne Flitcroft elected to raffle off her £190,000 stone cottage i Macclesfield, and is now advertising the competition with a large hoarding in the front garden of her mum’s home in Davyhulme Road.
With just 14,000 tickets available, the scheme’s odds are far better than even winning four numbers on the National Lottery.
“The National Lottery jackpot is actually one in 14 million rather than one in 14,000, but this is just as life altering, especially if won by a first time buyer,” said 38-year-old Joanne.
Anyone aged over 18 years may enter and have as many ‘goes’ as they like to the increase their chances of winning.
“The competition has the potential to change someone’s life,” she said.
“I read recently that 65 per cent of first time buyers believe they will never be able to get on the property ladder. Well, here’s their chance!
“For an existing homeowner it’s a holiday home, a rental property, a chance to sell and put the cash to another project or a nest egg for later life.
“Some may think this is too good to be true but the reality is that at the end of this competition someone will be handed the deeds and keys to a cottage, and it will be theirs to do what they like with. There will be no stamp duty or fees to pay. They’ll also get to donate money to their favourite charity.”
The competition will run until November 4 or until all 14,000 tickets have been sold.
