Trafford's parks host summer activities


PARKS and community safety teams are working with the youth service at Gorse Hill Studios, Greater Manchester Police and other partners to develop the ‘Destination Parks’ scheme at Longford, Davyhulme, Stamford and Victoria parks.

Executive councillor Jonathan Coupe said: “This year's Destination Parks programme is even bigger than last year's event and offers something for young people of all ages whether it be pony riding, football, arts and crafts or music.

"People have told us they value their parks and this winter saw the best quality scores ever for their maintenance. These events reinforce the pride we have in the borough's parks through a summer of fun where our green spaces are at the heart of the vibrant activities."

Highlights this year include: July 10, Longford Park, 6 to 9pm, Havin’ a Blast, an indie and rock music festival for all ages.

July 17, Davyhulme Park, 4.30 to 8.30pm, Summer Fun in the Park, which includes music, dance, pony rides, graffiti workshops, bouncy castle, face painters, arts and crafts and sports sessions.

July 24, Longford Park, 4.30 to 8.30pm, Summer Fun in the Park, as above.

July 31, Stamford Park, 4.30 to 8.30pm, Summer Fun in the Park, as above.

August 7, Stamford Park, 3.30 to 7.30pm, Sports in the Park, with music, dance, pony rides and taster sessions for sports for all the family.

August 14, Davyhulme Park, 3.30 to 7.30pm, Fun in the Park.

August 19, Davyhulme Park, 1 to 6pm, Pandemonium Parks, celebrating youth work activities, sports, leisure, arts and music.

August 22, Victoria Park, 1 to 6pm, Pandemonium Parks, as above.

August 26, Stamford Park, 1 to 6pm, Pandemonium Parks, as above.

August 28, Longford Park, 3.30 to 7.30pm, Fun in the Park.

There are also a variety of sports and music sessions on Friday and Saturday evenings.
