A SCHEME that aims to prevent falls and hip fractures among pensioners has earned a pat on the back.
The Healthy Hips and Hearts initiative by Trafford Primary Care Trust benefits more than 300 people through 30 classes run by volunteers.
The regular one-hour exercise classes devised by physiotherapists, give instruction on stretching and joint movement for older people in a relaxed and social setting.
The PCT’s health improvement team was praised in a region-wide review, which looks at the progress that the NHS has made since the publication of its ‘Healthier Horizons’ strategy a year ago.
The review ‘One Year On’ pulls together examples of outstanding services from across the region.
Mike Farrar, chief executive of NHS North West, said: “I’m really impressed with the work being done by Trafford PCT’s health improvement team and its ‘Healthy Hips and Hearts’ scheme, which ensures that the borough’s pensioners are some of the healthiest in the region!”
