MANCHESTER United star and England international Michael Carrick presented the Great Britain amputee squad with their GB Caps at the Red’s Carrington training ground.

The presentation followed a training session with Manchester United Foundation coaches using facilities there.

The caps were from the Amputee European Championships, which were held in Turkey in December, and where the team finished third on goal difference after being level on points with Turkey.

After chatting to young disabled athletes, midfielder Carrick said: “It is always a great honour to play for your country and I am grateful that I have been given the chance to do that in my own career. I am proud to have been asked to present these lads with their Great Britain caps.

“It’s amazing to watch them play – they are fantastic at what they do.”

The Manchester United Foundation provides the team with training support as part of its disability programme and many of the Great Britain team represent Manchester United in the Greater Manchester and the North West Ability Counts Leagues.

The Foundation also runs a centre of excellence in partnership with the Manchester FA to encourage the more talented players from the Ability Counts teams into the England International squads.
