Speed find a babysitter

You've heard of speed-dating and speed-networking but now busy Alpha mums have turned to the latest speed solution - speed-find a babysitter!

Altrincham venue The Shaker Room, which prides itself on being a child-friendly coffee lounge by day and a great place for parents to unwind with a cocktail on a night off, has teamed up with local agency Tiny Happy People to create the new event.

Mums and dads can pop in for a drink and meet some of the babysitters on the agency's books - all of whom are experienced in childcare and come referenced and police-checked.

With reduced joining fees on the night, parents can sign up to the babysitting service and give a list of their preferred sitters so when they need to call in a babysitter at short notice, there's no awkward tension or unease about leaving the little one with a stranger.

Helen Blore and Asher Horsefield of Tiny Happy People said, "We're really looking forward to the event and think it will offer benefits on all sides - mums and dads can meet the babysitters in advance, which is something that no other agency offers, and the sitters will also enjoy the chance to mingle and meet the parents."

Dee Brewster of The Shaker Room added, "The Shaker Room is a fashionable meeting place for stylish mums, both as a coffee lounge and a cocktail bar, and we're sure that this will be a popular event."

The event takes place on Thursday 4th October from 7.30pm. To find out more about the babysitting services on offer visit www.tinyhappypeople.co.uk For details of other events at The Shaker Room, visit the website at www.theshakerroom.co.uk

What is it about the middle class and this dumping of their children.
Have they learnt nothing from the Madeleine McCann situation?
How can it be acceptable to pick an unknown babysitter for your little ones over a few drinks

This is a fab idea. It's vital that you can empathise with staff so it's great that you can choose your baby sitter beforehand rather than just wait to see what the agency sends, plus any chance to have a few mojitas is alright with myself and my husband Jeremy.

What exactly is an Alpha mummy - are they the ones that need babysitters while they spend hubby's money having their nails done?

How typical of the childless and retired to knock an attempt to give some of us a social life once again.I'd love to be able to afford not to leave our son with a childminder all day, when we're both out working full-time and given that we have to and that all the grandparents died at an early age,it's not easy to get a babysitter who isn't a stranger

I've heard it all now - anyone who gets involved in this sort of thing is just asking for trouble. Call me a Victorian - but what's up with asking family and friends??

what a ridiculous thing to say - madeleine was left alone - surely this is a fantastic idea so that children are not left alone but are always with a trustworthy carer. commenting on the madeleine situation is always a dangerous subject.

I run the agency tiny happy people along with my business partener helen and i have 2 children of my own. Yes this event may not appeal to everyone, but some parents dont have friends or family near by to offer there services. All our sitters are fully referenced and police checked and vetted by us, and all have childcare experience or children of their own. Its a very friendly and informal event, just a chance for parents to see a few friendly faces and get more information from us.
thanks, asher horsefield, tiny happy people (putting big smiles on little faces)
