THE family of a motorcyclist who died in a collision in Stretford have paid tribute to him.

Matthew Neill, 30, was taken to hospital after his Yamaha motorcycle collided with a car in Winchester Road, Stretford around 4.30pm on Wednesday, July 25.

Police and ambulance services attended the scene and rushed him to Salford Royal Hospital, where he died the following day from his injuries.

Matt's sisters paid tribute to their younger brother on behalf of their family.

"We called him baby brother and he called us little sisters, because while he was the youngest of us three siblings, but he was the tallest, gentlest, and most caring of us. Matt was often referred to as the best of both of us", the sisters said.

"He had a big laugh that was infectious to anyone around and could be heard by everyone around. He had a love of funny videos and pranks, and of course hours were spent watching Mr. Bean.

"Matt loved animals. He was a cat and a dog person and he would house sit for his friend, just so he could dog sit too. He would always make sure he had enough treats for the beige and white Staffordshire, even if it meant a daily ride to the shop for her.

"He wasn’t a dad yet, but he had all the qualities of making a great one!

"He taught his nephew how to tie his shoes, the best ways to avoid eating his veggies and that you never ever wore matching socks!

"Our brother was the embodiment of love and devotion. A kind and giving soul who could fix your day with a big bear hug. He could lighten every day with a smile and his kind words."

Matt was a much-loved brother, son and uncle. His sisters said he was the "embodiment of love and devotion".

The family also expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the emergency services who cared for Matt after the accident.

"Our family need to give thanks to all of the emergency care workers involved, from the first responders and ambulance staff, to police and the A&E teams and critical care unit of Salford Royal Hospital", they said.

The driver of the white Vauxhall Insignia stayed at the scene and assisted police with enquiries, no arrests have been made.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident.

Sergeant Lee Westhead from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation unit said: “My heart goes out to Matt’s family, I can’t imagine what they are going through.

“Our specially trained officers are continuing to support them and we are trying to get them all of the answers to the questions they understandably have.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the collision, and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dash-cam footage that could help police.”
