POLICE have sectioned a man after an horrific sword attack in Trafford.

A major police incident was triggered on the afternoon of March 25, after a man was seen wielding a machete/sword on Upper Chorlton Road, close to popular bars.

A police officer was slashed across the face and at the time police called them "serious injuries".

A witness to the incident told the Messenger that the man had been pursued wielding the weapon through Whalley Range from Park Road and College Road, before being cornered in the garden of a house opposite Jam Street Café, on Upper Chorlton Road

Horrific CCTV images appeared on social media of the cornered man as he struck out against police officers after being ordered to put it down.

The man was only subdued after he had been Tasered several times and attacked one of the police officer who was taken to hospital following the incident.

Police have now told the Messenger: “A 23-year-old man has been detained under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act and the police investigation remains ongoing.

“The injured officer has made full recovery and has returned to duty.”
