PLANS to build a discount food store and a drive through coffee shop have been filed at Trafford Town Hall.
Giants Aldi and Starbucks are seeking permission from the authority to redevelop land off Neary Way, Trafford Retail Park, Davyhulme.
Planning documents described the site as a vacant, disused plot that forms an ‘unattractive’ feature within the area.
“The proposed development would bring this brownfield site back into use, making the overall Trafford Retail Park site more attractive,” stated the report.
In addition, agent Peel Retail Developments plan to build a warehouse with an adjoining outdoor garden centre – and 157 car parking spaces.
“The proposed development will be accessible for all, with sufficient disabled, parent and child spaces along with bicycle racks and car charging facilities,” stated the report.
“The buildings have been sympathetically designed to fit in with the existing units, whilst creating a modern commercial destination.
“A proposal of a very similar nature has already been accepted by the council on the application site, however, the land has remained vacant for a number of years.”
Blueprints show that public access to the site would be off Neary Way while service vehicles would use a separate entrance at the site’s north-western corner.
Similar proposals to develop a supermarket on the site were approved by the authority in 2015.
However, if this scheme is approved it will supersede those plans.
