Plans to transform a Stretford building into a 201-bed student accommodation block have been tabled.

If approved, the conversion of the Warwick Road location will support the proposed UA92 University.

The new sporting academy is the brainchild of ex-footballer Gary Neville and is backed by former Manchester United teammates Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville.

A separate planning application seeking permission to house the university on the former Kellogg’s site on Talbot Road has also been submitted to the town hall.

The accommodation block bid for Warwick House, submitted by agent Tim Edghill of T-Space Developments, proposes to change the use of the office building and extend it by three storeys.

“The scheme would provide a student residence including ancillary support, laundry, lounge and cafe spaces,” planning documents read.

“In addition, a new three-storey roof and rear extension will provide 201-bed student accommodation.

“At eighth floor and ground floor level there will be social spaces, lounges and kitchen space.

“The application will support the proposed UA92 campus quarter on the adjacent Kellogg’s site.”

UA92 will operate as a branch of Lancaster University and is due to open in September 2019.
