PUPILS from Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School performed an impressive music recital for the residents and staff at a residential care home last week.

Residents at Ashlands Manor Care Centre in Ashton-upon-Mersey, Sale were treated to an hour long performance by 15 talented pupils from Y8 to Y13.

The pensioners serenaded with classics, including ‘Somewhere’ from West Side Story, ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and ‘You Raise Me Up’.

There was a variety of music from soloists to group performances and some ensemble songs from the choir. Some of the songs were even accompanied by a student playing the ukulele.

Residents and staff at the purpose-built 57 bed care facility were delighted to be visited by the students from the grammar school and gave the pupils a rousing round of applause.

Suzi Sumegi, manager at Ashlands Manor, said: “The visit was wonderful. Regardless of their age, our residents love music and we aim to entertain and delight them as frequently as possible with special performances and one-off shows.

"The pupils from Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School were incredibly professional and performed a fabulous recital that has had toes tapping ever since.”

Julia Mayall, head of music at Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School, added: “The students relish every opportunity to perform and we were thrilled to be invited to Ashlands Manor.

"It was lovely to see the residents enjoying the music and joining in with the songs that they knew.”

Ashlands Manor was recently named as one of the top 20 most highly recommended care homes in the region. It is part of the fast growing, development-led care home operator New Care.
