WAYS in which people can help reduce air pollution will be top of the political agenda during Thursday’s second national Clean Air Day tomorrow.

According to Trafford Council, cycling is high on the agenda with plans to improve the cycle infrastructure across the borough as one way of tackling air quality.

At tomorrow's event, the local authority is encouraging people to use their feet to get around and leave the car at home and either walk, cycle, catch the bus, or take the Metrolink.

At the town hall, staff will be encouraged to try out electric bikes, use a bike repair service, and take part in a guided bike ride.

Longer term, Trafford Council, is also working alongside TfGM to invest in upgrades to current bike routes as well as introducing new schemes.

Other tips for reducing pollution include: using electric vehicles, switching engines off when stationary, car sharing, servicing your vehicle and using electrical devices in the home as efficiently as possible

Cllr Stephen Adshead, executive member for environment said: “Air quality is one of the most important challenges facing Greater Manchester.

“We hope the day inspires people to make a change; to think about how they travel and its impact on the environment. Last year, schools played a fundamental role, so we’re keen that even more get involved this year – we need your help.”
