A WORLD CUP themed pop-up bar opens tomorrow to kick off a summer of football.

The new Libero pop-up bar in Kings Court, Altrincham will sell craft ales and broadcast World Cup matches in the secluded courtyard off Railway Street, in the centre of Altrincham.

Friends and football fanatics Paul Rooney and Ian Smythe have put their love of the sport and its culture into creating a perfect hide-away to enjoy the beautiful game and enjoy a quality pint.

Paul said: "We have created a venue that will appeal to broad demographic and one which people will feel comfortable in while enjoying an excellent pint of bear watching the World Cup, tucked away from more raucous fans.”

Paul, originally from Altrincham, and Ian, from Stretford, met at college.

Paul, a former PE teacher and football coach from Altrincham, works for Jack in the Box at Altrincham Market. His business partner Ian, from Stretford, is a deputy head teacher in Poynton.

The two footy-mad friends, who play for Chorlton Athletic FC, wanted to combine their love of craft beers and football culture to create Libero, a haven for fellow fans to relax and soak up the World Cup atmosphere.

Daniel Lee, director of Regional Property Solutions, who let the niche space on behalf of the landlord said the idea for a World Cup pop-up bar was an example of the initiative being shown by independent businesses in Altrincham.

He said: "This space has recently become available and the pop-up concept was an appealing local initiative for the duration of the World Cup and Kings Court provided the ideal location.”

The Libero Pop-Up bar opens on Friday, June 15 at 1pm and will close Sunday, July 15.
