A BREAST cancer survivor from Altrincham is set to walk the runway in aid of vital research into the disease.

Sophie West, 37, will join 11 other women to showcase clothes by fashion brand Fuzzy Goose, to raise funds for Manchester-based charity Prevent Breast Cancer.

The marketing guru, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last July, is now committed to raising awareness of the disease.

The fashion show, which takes place on June 14 at the Hallmark Hotel Manchester Airport in Wilmslow, will include women who have been affected by breast cancer.

Sophie said: “I discovered a lump while showering and went to get it checked out, assuming it would be nothing to worry about, so later being told it was breast cancer was a complete shock.

“It felt like my whole life flashed before me and that it wasn’t really happening to me.

“However, I remained positive and I’m now so passionate about showing younger women the importance of self-checking.

“I had no family history of the disease, so it was never a worry for me, especially at my age but it really can happen to anyone.”

Determined to encourage other women to take responsibility for checking for changes in their breasts, Sophie launched a campaign called ‘Feel on the 4th’. The social media initiative calls on women to check themselves on the fourth day of every month, inspired by the fact that Sophie found her lump on July 4, 2017.

Now, she is hoping that the fashion show will encourage more women get on board with the campaign.
