Red, white and blue all over – the country is in high-spirits ahead of the Royal Wedding this weekend and the people of Trafford are getting ready to party.

It's a busy weekend for the borough, with a Royal Wedding, an FA Cup Final, the Great Manchester Run and Great City Games bringing a festive atmosphere to the streets of Trafford.

Trafford Council has agreed to close five streets as people across the borough celebrate the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

While the Royal couple tie the knot at Windsor Castle, families and neighbours will be breaking out the bunting and popping open the bubbly.

The weekend will no doubt feature family fun, fancy dress, sweet treats and of course, watching the main event on TV.

Burlington Road in Trafford is one of five streets in the borough given permission to close their road. They have a Royal wedding cake competition lined up and are putting up a huge TV screen to watch the live broadcast.

Resident, Sinead Donnelly, said: “Lots of effort is being put into the event, which will involve a family quiz, a bouncy castle, large outdoor games, a barbecue, a fancy dress competition, a royal wedding cake competition, a visit from the ice cream man and a TV to watch the wedding!”

Ashley Crescent in Swinton will host a party for all neighbours as they all get involved.

Resident, Alice Preston, said: “We’ve organised a WhatsApp group and Facebook page and plan to close the street off early to decorate.

“We have bunting, marquees, disco and karaoke as well as games including the Ashley dash! We will have a few bars for gin and cocktails and the hot tub will be open.”

Sarah-Amelia Fogg in Trafford said: “There has been a really good sense of community when planning this and it’s going to be a really nice day.

“We’ve organised a DJ, screen to watch the wedding, a bar, bouncy castle for the kids, face painter, balloon maker, barbecues – it’s really going to be quite something!”

These are all the street closures in Trafford:

Burlington Road, Altrincham

Castleway, Hale Barns

Lime Grove, Timperley

Portland and Winton Roads, Bowdon

The Mount, Altrincham
